Newsletter 17- 4 November 2021
Fourth term continues to be a very busy, exciting and productive one. Lots of important events and programs are underway as the school year rapidly draws to a close. The two weeks of interm swimming will conclude tomorrow. Congratulations to students for their participation, especially with some very interesting weather.
It is great to see that more students are starting the school day in a calm way, being seated and chatting in the undercover area until the bell rings for them to walk to their classes. As the sun’s UV rays are intensifying, could you please assist us in reminding students to bring their Sun smart hats to school and wear them whenever they are not in the shade.
We conducted a Fire Evacuation Drill, so that everyone knows what to do in an emergency situation. The response time for our campus was very good.
Primary school students have completed their PAT testing and the ESC community is now ready for a school review visit next Tuesday. This will involve one full day of interviews with staff, parents and students.
Forward planning for both schools is also well underway. Please assist us by informing the school in writing if students will not be returning to school next year.
We were very proud of our up-and-coming campus leaders for 2022. These Year 5 students gave their speeches last week and are an awaiting announcement shortly. Of course, a lot of focus is now on our current campus graduating year sixes as they prepare for their special graduation day.
In Term Swimming begins next week for Pre-primary & Year 1
Swimming lessons for these Pre-primary and Year 1 students begin this coming Monday 8/11/21 for two weeks. We ask that each family makes sure that their child’s swimming items are labelled and ready for each day they go swimming.

We didn’t think students realised how unsafe leaving lunchboxes and drink bottles on the corner of block 2 veranda was.
To their absolute credit, they listened attentively when it was explained that this was a real trip hazard that can cause injury if someone falls.
Even more impressive is that no lunch items have been left there since the new reminder posters were put in place.
Keep it up. You did it!

The student leaders and the school admin team acknowledged the efforts of all the teaching staff at a morning tea that was hosted on the 21October 2021. We are truly grateful for the support this school community provides for all students and their families.
Thank you teachers from all of us at South Ballajura Campus.

The student leadership elections were held on the Thursday 28 October 2021. The aspiring candidates gave some interesting and entertaining speeches. Announcement of those who were successful in their leadership bid will be made at the one of the upcoming Assemblies. We hope to have a transitional period for the new leaders as they will have an opportunity to work shadow the current leaders over the coming weeks.

EI1 and the mainstream kindy had lots of fun today coming together to engage in a Lego Therapy Session and dance off! We all had lots of fun working together to assemble some fantastic creations!

Chatterbox Time with Miss Capelli
Recasting is a great support strategy for parents and teachers. “Recasting” is when we repeat back what a child has said with correct or more detailed language. You can use this to recast correct speech sounds, correct grammar or to extend language.
Some examples are:
If a child says “I saw a tar”, the adult could say “wow, you saw a car!”.
If a child says “I goed to the zoo”, the adult could say “you went to the zoo! What did you see when you went to the zoo?”
If a child says “want banana”, the adult could say “I want more banana please”.
'Wombat Stew' Yoga
Term 3 Yoga ended with a great Yoga skit played out by each classroom to the Theme 'Wombat Stew'.
Sensorium visited our Campus with this great story, so we thought we could reflect our own Yoga version. Our students loved dressing up and practiced awesome Yoga moves.

We learnt that we need to say please and thank you when someone gives you lollies. We made sure we used our manners on Sunday when we went trick or treating as SpongeBob (Kelvin) and Mario (Luan). Thanks Miss Sam we had MEGA fun on Friday!!!

Please advise us if your child/ren in Kindy to Year 5 are leaving at the end of the 2021 school year, by advising the school office in writing as soon as possible.
This is vital for 2022 school planning.
Learning a second language helps grasp better knowledge of cultural diversity.
Students are continuing their study of Indonesian as follows:
Year Threes have learnt the names of some Indonesian food and drinks and will be learning to say what food or drink they like and don't like through song and by completing activities in their student portfolios.
Year Fours have begun learning weather words and will learn how to describe the day's weather through song and by working on oral and written activities in their portfolios.
Year Fives are continuing to work on activities from Language Learning Space entitled 'Pasola' which is about Indonesian bath and toilet habits.
Year Sixes have started learning the names of body parts through song and will be completing a variety of activities in their student portfolios. To finish the topic, they will be creating a robot.
Happy Learning! Selamat belajar!
Salam
