Newsletter 12 - 12 August 2021
Its’s incredible to think we are in Week 4 of term already. With so many exciting special events happening this term, the days are flying by as we enjoy the amazing learning opportunities for all of our students.
Two of those special events recently, were the Choirfest and West Coast Fever Champions Cup Netball Carnival. A huge thank you to Mrs Southerland, Mrs Quigley, Mrs Harney, Mrs Rowie and Mrs Guise for the preparation of and organisation for the Choirfest last Tuesday at BCC. It was great having Choirfest back on the calendar. The level of enthusiasm and professionalism of the event was impressive and not to mention the incredible voices of the children. Our Primary School Choir, Campus Drumming Club, and the Signing Club performers were a credit to our school. Thank you to all staff who have dedicated so much time to these students to prepare them and have them perform at the best.
Thank you to Ms Hamid who organised and prepared our Netballers for the West Coast Fever Champions Cup, last Wednesday, held at the Perth Netball Centre. The netballers were extremely competitive and did SBPS proud. Congratulations to all the players, helpers and supporters who attend the day.
The first assembly this term run by TA28 and TA29 was very rewarding to be involved in during Week 2. Many thanks to our Year 6 students and teachers, for their clever dance moves and preparation for the assembly. Also to Ibu Frances for instructing the students to present our very unique version of our national anthem.
The Year 4 students of TA10 educated and entertained us with their assembly item this week. Sharing their knowledge of farm animals spoken in Indonesian and their song sung in Indonesian was very educational. We are grateful for them to share what they learnt about our Well-being; then to finish their item with an uplifting ‘dance, dance, dance’ to the tune of “Can’t Stop the Feeling” was awesome. Thank you Mrs Chodiman and TA 10.
Many thanks to you all for bringing our community together and acknowledging students for their efforts at school.
Learning a new language has special benefits for children at school and in life - Dept, of Edu. WA
Students have been revising previous language learnt and are progressing well.
Year 3 students are learning to name the members in their family and will be doing a written and oral presentation of " My Family" with teacher support.
Year 4's are working on question words and will be focusing on celebrations, mainly Indonesia's Independence Day which falls on the 17th of August.
Year 5's will be learning vocabulary to describe their day and create a comic strip of a day in a week.
Year 6's will be working on a challenge from Language Learning Space entitled 'Pencak Silat' (Indonesian Martial Arts) and discussing hobbies and extending their vocabulary through Quizlet.
As Indonesia's Independence day falls on Tuesday 17th August, students will be doing special activities relating to this celebration, during their lesson, on that auspicious day.
Happy Learning! Selamat Belajar!

Meet the Board

In my spare time I love spending time with my family and friends down in Busselton; learning new songs on my ukulele; watching movies and TV shows; playing Nintendo games (favourites include Mario Kart, Mario Party and Zelda: Breath of the Wild); and keeping fit by swimming, walking and learning the occasional Tik Tok dance.
Chatterbox Time with Ms Capelli

Chatterbox tip of the week:
Allowing time for communication!
Pausing is a powerful tool when communicating as it increases time for comprehension and formulating our reply. It is helpful to ask a question once, allow time then repeat or rephrase the question if necessary. Silence can be a simple but helpful strategy.

The student leaders would like to begin some projects to make some areas of the school more inviting. To help them, the student leaders would like families to donate colourful socks that are clean and in good condition.
Any donations can be sent in with your child, and the student leaders will collect them. Thanks in advance.
Theses are some of their creations so far.
