Newsletter 10 - 24 June 2021
Firstly, how great do our year 6 Leavers shirts look?! Congratulations to the students, Mrs Farmer and Mrs Underwood on the design of the shirts. I am sure the students will wear them with pride.
It is good to look back on the past few weeks and celebrate some of the great achievements at South Ballajura. On Friday 11th of June, our upper primary students competed in the Inter School Winter Carnival against Ballajura, Illawarra and Alinjarra Primary Schools in AFL, soccer and netball. I am so proud to let you know, that we won both the netball A and B and soccer A and B and we were third in the AFL. This is an outstanding result for South Ballajura. Well done to all concerned - our staff, parent coaches and supports and a huge congratulations to our wonderful Miss Hamid for all her work in Phys Ed. Great job everyone.
Over the next week we have several events and activities across the campus. On Monday, there is a culmination of our STEM Rocket challenge, with 1, 2, 3 Blast Off! Where we will launch rockets from various classes and test how well they fly!
Also next week we will celebrate NAIDOC with some artistic activities and a music incursion from Gina Williams on Tuesday. Again this is an important time to recognise the contribution of First Nations people to our society.
On Tuesday we will also have a special Music assembly where we can celebrate some of our talented students.
During the week we will also recognise students through the Faction Reward Day and Pizza with the Principal. These are always fun events.
Finally, as the term comes to a close, your child will receive their reports next week. Please take the time to look over these with your child as part of our ongoing communication with you.
Before I sign off, I will be on leave next term. A new principal will be appointed to the Primary School by the Education Department and I will let you know who that is, as soon as I know. Thank you for your ongoing support.
We have a new faction draw barrel! Our students are earning so many tokens, our draw bucket was just not big enough! Our ingenious PE teacher, Miss Hamid came up with a solution- to turn a compost bin into a raffle barrel. With a few minor alterations, some perspex and some gold spray paint, a magic token barrel was created! This barrel is part of our school faction token reward system. The children earn tokens for displaying our school expectations and these go into the draw for fortnightly prizes. Individual tokens are counted by our hard-working Faction Captains and badges are awarded when they reach milestones. A big thank you to Miss Hamid for her great innovation!
The student leaders would like to begin some projects to make some areas of the school more inviting. To help them, the student leaders would like families to donate colourful socks that are clean and in good condition, as well as used stuffed toys. Please see the examples below.
Any donations can be sent in with your child, and the student leaders will collect them. Thanks in advance.
Kindy and Pre Primary Integration
During this semester, EI1 and EI2 have been coming together with the children of the mainstream kindy class for lots of fun and exciting adventures! This week the children were able to explore the bike track for the first time! All the children enjoyed playing together! They especially enjoyed exploring the music spinner, the swing and the trampoline. We are looking forward to many more adventures to come!
The Students have been busy these last few weeks making clay monsters. They had lots of fun and are very creative! We have some artists in the making.
