Humanities & Social Sciences (HASS)

The WA Curriculum Humanities and Social Science Program is a specialist subject comprising of Historical and Geographical studies. Students are engaged in meaningful, experiential and online research activities focussing on Indigenous studies, mapping, global representation and learning about their own identity, family history and the local community. Through sorting, classifying, investigating, exploring and role play, students develop important skills that can be used for historical and geographical inquiry and analysis.

Protective Behaviour and Health

Protective Behaviours is an educational program designed to assist our students to recognise and practise a range of safe and acceptable behaviours around people. Using visuals, role plays and other hands-on activities, our students learn the following skills - identifies own and others' feelings, discriminates between public and private places and behaviour as well as 'circle concept', an approach to explaining acceptable degrees of intimacy in different relationships, as well as learning about whom to approach for help when needed. In Health, we learn about making smart food choices and also appropriate personal hygiene practices.

Science

SBESC’s Science program is a specialist learning area which focuses on areas of Biological Sciences, Chemical Science, Earth and Space Sciences and Physical Sciences and integrates scientific skills, such as, inquiry and human endeavour. Students engage in activities involving observation, property analysis, experiments using a wide array of materials and using their senses to explore and gather scientific information. Utilising art and real life experiences, students are encouraged to make predictions, observe and draw their own conclusions of the scientific world around them.

Visual Arts

All students at South Ballajura ESC from years 1 to 6 are given the opportunity to engage in a specialised visual art program. Students learn about artists and the different cultural perspectives that can be communicated though art. The program allows students to engage and explore with a variety of visual art processes building creativity and self-esteem.
