Campus Integration and Performing Arts
At South Ballajura campus, ESC and primary classrooms are intermingled to maximise quality inclusive learning opportunities for all students. Engaging integration and purposeful interactions are campus priorities in classrooms, in the playground and for special events. Our students are supported to successfully participate in a range of specialist sessions with their mainstream peers including Physical Education, Art, Music and Indonesian, as well as performance clubs (Choir, Jump Jam, Drumming, Signing), CAMPers and Playskills sessions.
Rhythm to Recovery (R2R)
R2R is the combining of rhythmic music and movement with cognitive reflection and mindfulness. Drumming and other rhythm-based exercises can have a powerful effect on individual and group settings. This program allows for flexibility to address the needs of the group by finding the balance that is required between thinking and doing and calming activities that enable the students to regulate. R2R is an inclusive program involving Education Support and mainstream students, and it promotes our Campus Motto “Learning together-Growing together, as well as builds on the 5 You Can Do It Keys to Success, and utilizes our Thinking Hats program.
Playskills is an integration focussed, peer based group designed to build relationships and social skills through natural play based activities. This evidence based program using WALT (We Are Learning To) and WILF (What I’m Looking For), enables students to transfer their learnt skills into the wider community. This program also incorporates ‘Thinking Hats’, and ‘Keys to Success’ in the ‘You Can Do It’ program. The focus of Playskills is to promote and keep peer friendships throughout the students’ primary school years and hopefully into high school. Another big focus is multi-modal communication using all resources available for successful active communication between peers.
Signing, Drumming and Jump Jam are inclusive, voluntary performance clubs available to all students at the South Ballajura campus, epitomizing our campus motto 'Learning Together, Growing Together'. All the clubs are successfully run by Education Support staff. Students meet at lunchtimes and perform at various events including assemblies and at community venues.
Jump Jam/Jiggle Jam (JJ)
Our now qualified JJ trainer was instrumental in introducing N.Z. Kidz Aerobix to W.A. in 2014. JJ provides students with a fun and valuable exercise habit early in life along with skills and attitudes to meet their ongoing health and physical activity needs. JJ is designed to challenge fundamental movement skills, increase fitness, develop student leadership and motivate students to move and enjoy exercise. Students also have opportunities to perform and showcase their talents and teamwork.
